  • If you are up for a parish church that has pre-Norman Conquest foundations, then you are in the right place, as the St Michael, Cornhill church of the City of London is one such wonder. Designated a Grade I building in the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, it is attributed to the renowned Sir Christopher Wren, who is responsible for another 50 churches after the Great Fire of London of 1666. The tower, though, was built by Nicholas Hawksmoor and embellishments were finalised by Sir George Gilbert Scott and Herbert Williams in the nineteenth century. Affiliated with the Church of England, it adheres to the Neo-Gothic architectural style.
