Sitting majestically in St James’s, London, England, Spencer House (also known as 27 St. James’s Place) is one of the most eye-popping mansions designated a Grade I building in the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. Commissioned by the renowned John, 1st Earl Spencer, in 1756, the estate was designed and erected by John Vardy, the former student of the master architect William Kent. What’s interesting to know about it is that, due to the studies of Mr Vardy that often looked in the direction of Ancient Greek architecture, the mansion became one of the first incarnations of Neoclassical style in England that was going to take the country by storm.
