  • If you happen to be visiting Timișoara (Romania), you might want to take a glance at the Huniade Castle (also known as “Castelul Huniade”), the oldest monument in and around the city. Built between 1443 and 1447 by the world-famous John Hunyadi (the father of the renaissance king of Hungary, Matthias Corvinus) over an older incarnation (built between 1308 and 1315), it harbours the History Section and the Natural Sciences Section of the Banat Museum. What’s interesting about the structure is that it has two lamps in front of it commemorating the fact that Timișoara was the first European town to introduce electric public lighting in the year 1864. If you are into Romanesque masterpieces, this one is sure to blow your mind!
