  • Have you ever wondered what the birthplace of Vlad III the Impaler (Vlad Țepeș) looked like in real life? Well the Historic Centre of Sighișoara has just the thing for you! Known also as the Sighișoara Citadel, the place was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. Built in the 12th century by the local Saxon population, it was dubbed Castrum Rex. What’s interesting about the citadel (and the entirety of the centre of the Transylvanian city of Sighișoara), besides the fact that it serves as host to an annual festival dedicated to the Middle Ages, is that it exhibits architectural alikeness to medieval Germany. This is a definite must-see if you are visiting Transylvania!
