  • Visiting the Romanian countryside has countless perks and the Ieud Hill Church (also known as “Biserica din Ieud Deal” or “Istenszülő Születése Fatemplom”) is most indubitably one of them. Situated in the heart of the village of Ieud (Maramureș County), it is one of the most attractive representatives of the Wooden Churches of Maramureș UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built sometime in the early 17th century, it was listed as a historic monument by Romania’s Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs. Located upon a hill that distinguishes it from the Ieud Valley Church, it is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin. The local environment is also extremely beautiful to behold and visitors are encouraged to go camping if they get the chance. There is nothing like spending a night under the clear skies of Transylvania.
