  • Located deep within the heart of Transylvania (Romania), the Turda Gorge is one of the most renowned natural reserves in Eastern Europe. Located six kilometres from the town of Turda, the gorge stretches upon an area of approximately 324 hectares. Boasting with walls as tall as 300 metres, it is home to more than 1,000 plant species (among which one can find endangered ones as well) and over 67 species of birds. Formed by the erosion of a 2,900-metre-long mountain (made of Jurassic limestone), the Turda Gorge possesses over 60 known caves – most of them are small with the longest one being 120 metres long. What’s also interesting to know about it is that its vicinity has been inhabited since Neolithic times.
