  • Serving as the cathedral of the Eparchy of Oradea Mare (also known as “Eparchia Magnovaradinensis Romenorum”), St. Nicholas Cathedral (also known as “Greek-Catholic Cathedral of St. Nicholas” or “Catedrala Sfântul Nicolae”) is a magnificent sight for all visitors of the Transylvanian city of Oradea. Its construction began in 1800 but it was not until 1839 that the church was finally finished. Adhering to the Baroque architectural style, it was designed by architect Giovanni Quai. What’s interesting to know about the cathedral is that its single tower is but the third incarnation of its kind for two of the previous ones got burned down in 1836 and 1907.
