  • If you are visiting the historically-significant city of Oradea (Bihor County, Romania), be sure to hop over to one of its prime attractions: the Oradea Citadel (also known as “Cetatea Oradea”). Equipped with a vast network of underground tunnels and a noteworthy moat, it was deemed impregnable in its prime – even after its initial years between 1077 and 1095. In spite of that, it was demolished in 1241 by the Mongols and in 1474 by the Turks. The citadel grounds are divided into sections known as “Bodies” (A through P) and there are 5 bastions also that you can explore: the Golden Bastion (Bastionul Aurit), the Bethlen Bastion (Bastionul Bethlen), the Ciunt Bastion (Bastionul Ciunt), the Crăișorul Bastion (Bastionul Crăișorul), and, last but not least, the Red Bastion (Bastionul Roșu).
