  • Located deep within the heart of the Romanian city of Curtea de Argeș, the Curtea de Argeș Cathedral (also known as “Mănăstirea Curtea de Argeș”) is the uncontested seat of the Archdiocese of Argeș and Muscel. Found within the sanctum of the local Monastery, it was built between 1512 and 1517 and designed by architects André Lecomte du Noüy and Nicolae Gabrielescu. Note that it has been restored in 1885 as well. Reaching a maximum height of 25 metres, it is but 18 metres long and 10 metres wide. Founded by Neagoe Basarab and dedicated to Saint Nicholas, it adheres to the Byzantine and Moorish architectural styles. What’s interesting about this cathedral is that it is linked with the “Mesterul Manole” legend.
