  • Adhering to the standards of the Baroque architectural style, Arad’s Cathedral of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist (also known as “Catedrala Nașterea Sf. Ioan Botezătorul”) was built between the years 1862 and 1865. Overseen by master architect Anton Ziegler, the cathedral was financed by the Greek entrepreneur Georgios Sinas and the Mocioni family (also known as “Mocsonyi de Foen” in Hungarian). What’s interesting to know about it is that it used to serve as the seat of the Archdiocese of Arad until 2009, when the Holy Trinity Cathedral took over.
