  • Kraków and Warsaw are the two main tourist-magnets in Poland but here’s the thing: there is a lot more to it than those two historically famous cities. As such, one of its most esteemed natural attractions is a tree known as Bartek, sitting deep within the bounds of Zagnańsk, near Kielce in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. Considered the elder oak of the country, it had been previously overestimated as being 1,200 years old. However, it has recently been scrutinised again and its age has been determined to be only 686 years. The fame of Bartek is interesting when considering the fact that other local yew trees have reached older ages. With a maximum height of 33.5 metres, it still possesses 8 of its 14 original branches. Oh, and it’s photogenic (wink)!
