  • Decorating the inner bounds of the Hungarian city of Veszprém, the St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica (known also as the Szent Mihály Székesegyház or the Veszprém Cathedral) serves as the nucleus of the Archdiocese of Veszprém. Pertaining to the Catholic Church, the cathedral seems to be one of the oldest religious establishments in the country (archaeological findings indicate that there has been a church there since the year 1001). Built to adhere to the Gothic architectural style, it has seen a couple of redesigns throughout its lifetime where Romanesque and Baroque elements have been added (though the latter nuances have been removed by the 1907-1910 restoration). Having hosted reputable concerts of the works of Mozart, Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven, the cathedral has been elevated to a minor basilica in 1981 by Pope John Paul II.
