  • Have you ever considered visiting Thessaloniki, the second most populous city in Greece? Well, if you have plans to go there, then be sure to check out the local Archaeological Museum for it is simply fabulous. Housing artefacts pertaining to the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods, it was established in 1912. Famous items on display include: the statue of Harpocrates (dating back to the late 2nd century BC); the Head of Serapis (also from the 2nd century BC); the copy of “Unveiling” Aphrodite (421-420 BC); the Derveni Papyrus (from the 5th century BC); and countless others. Add Epona, the Gallo-Roman horse goddess, to the mix, and you’ve got a brilliant experience ahead (wink).
