  • Named after Barbados’ second Lord Proprietor, James Hay (the 1st Earl of Carlisle), Carlisle Bay is a small yet significant natural harbour on the south-western rim of the island. Located adjacent to the capital of the island, Bridgetown, the bay has eventually been turned into a marine park. A popular spot for snorkelling and diving, the pride of Bridgetown has unparalleled underwater sights that no tourist should leave out. The ocean floor is lined with old ships, anchors and even cannonballs that visitors can examine. Another important thing to know about the bay is that it possesses one of the historic lighthouses of Barbados: the Needham’s Point Lighthouse.
