  • Those who are interested in the culture and the exquisite landmarks of Barbados should know that the renowned Morgan Lewis Windmill is the last sugar windmill to operate on the island. Located in St. Andrews and owned by Egbert L. Bannister, it was decommissioned in 1947 and donated to the Barbados National Trust in 1962 so that it may be preserved as a museum. Listed in the World Monuments Watch of 1996 by the World Monuments Fund, the mill was reopened in 1999.

The monument is renowned for being one of the two working sugar windmills of the world (the other one being Betty’s Hope of Antigua). Visitors can check out the mill’s interior and can also climb to its top.
